The terrible truth is that every day children are killed and seriously injured on roads. For example, across Britain, about two classrooms of kids are killed or seriously hurt every WEEK. Dying or being injured on the road is the biggest threat you face. So listen up!
If you don’t die, you could be terribly injured. Bad injuries include:
Your brain controls your body. When you are badly head injured, your brain is damaged and you might not be able to think properly or move your body properly anymore. Imagine having the mind of a toddler. You might not be able to talk properly ever again. You might not even be able to feed yourself.
Imagine being stuck in a wheelchair the rest of your life. Not able to move your legs, and maybe not able to move your arms either. Not being able to move your legs is called paraplegia. Not being able to move your legs or arms is called tetraplegia or quadraplegia.
Imagine waking up and finding that surgeons have had to cut your legs off because they were so badly squashed by a car. Danica can tell you what it’s like to live with an amputated leg. Read her story here
If you are a boy, it’s much more likely you’ll be hurt. Two out of three kids killed or hurt on roads are boys. Why? Research tells us that boys take more risks. Whether you are a boy or a girl you need to try to keep safety at the top of your mind when around roads.
